Annette’s Story

I started my accounting journey at Heriot-Watt University in 1998 where I studied MA(Hons) in Accountancy and Finance. I loved my university years in Edinburgh and stayed there for another 3 years after leaving University.

I did my Chartered Accountancy training through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) and trained with the firm Cowan & Partners.

My time at Cowan & Partners was invaluable as it prepared me wonderfully for the type of clients I now deal with at Duncan Accounting.

Subsequent to this I then moved to London and spent a year and a half working for Goldman Sachs as a Financial Controller. Goldmans taught me much about the world of banking and London!

After Goldmans I worked at BP in a Trade Control role for a year and a half, leaving in 2008 having taken voluntary redundancy. Working in Canary Wharf with BP was another first for me. It was great experience working inside a business and I feel that has help me become a more rounded accountant. I realise what it is like to be on the inside of businesses not just on the outside.

Next I went to Centrica in Windsor. No more daily tube journey! At Centrica I had a couple of roles and latterly worked in the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) team.

In 2009 Duncan Accounting was born. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to have my own business. I am passionate about my business and also helping others to succeed in theirs. I love my job and love meeting many different business owners and learning about their businesses. Accounting is more than just the numbers to me.
